2012 Common Sense Politics

The Tea Party - Republican - Conservative Divorce Agreement with America ...REALLY ..defies common sense
Conservatives ...Republicans ... the nearly 50% who feel like they simply cannot move on with Obama as their leader have been defying simple common sense since the 2012 election. These are the Tea Party members who SO claim to love our constitution but cannot stomach the thought of one tenant of it, that we elect a president in a democratic fashion. To them, it has been as though "since we didn't win, we don't want to abide by that constitution anymore Talks of secession and refusal to compromise in any fashion for the betterment of our citizens are rampant. And here is another example...a forwarded email going around. The hatred is remarkable. Its difficult not to cry sore losers in this instance. Again, this kind of belief defies common sense. I share with you the email.
DIVORCE AGREEMENT
Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al: We have stuck together since the late 1950's for the sake of the kids, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has clearly run its course.
Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right for us all, so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.
Here is a model separation agreement:
--Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a similar portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.
--We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them.
--You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU.
--Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military.
--We'll take the nasty, smelly oil industry and you can go with wind, solar and biodiesel.
--You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell. You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them.
--We'll keep capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street.
--You can have your beloved lifelong welfare dwellers, food stamps, homeless, homeboys, hippies, druggies and illegal aliens.
--We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks.
--We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood.
--You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us.
--You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.
--We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.
--You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, political correctness and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N. But we will no longer be paying the bill.
--We'll keep the SUV's, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Volt and Leaf you can find.
--You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors.
--We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right.
--We'll keep "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "The National Anthem."
--I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute "Imagine", "I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing", "Kum Ba Ya" or "We Are the World".
--We'll practice trickle-down economics and you can continue to give trickle up poverty your best shot.
--Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.
Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like-minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you answer which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.
Sincerely,
John J. Wall
Law Student and an American
P.S. Also, please take Ted Turner, Sean Penn, Martin & Charlie Sheen, Barbara Streisand, & ( Hanoi ) Jane Fonda with you.
P.S.S. And you won't have to press 1 for English when you call our country.
Forward This Every Time You Get It ! Let's Keep This Going, Maybe Some Of It Will Start Sinking In!!

Cold Stone Creamery Employee Fired for RACIST remarks
Here is the story of the Cold Stone Creamery lady who thought it would be just peachy to bitch about Obama getting elected. She used the N word and then said what something that will get you a visit from the authorities. THEN she claimed she isn't racist. Excuse me but after you use the N word in 2012 you never ever ever again get to say you aren't racist. Click the link for the storyon Denise Helms. Good luck Denise ever getting a job again.

Papa Johns and Applebees are laying off WHY ?
Papa Johns owner is going to layoff people because he claims Obama's re-election will cause him to let go of employees. Guess what ...Mr Papa John Shmetta ...whatever your name is ...YOU are FIRED ...no more Papa Johns for me...so now when myself and those who believe like me that we won't tolerate your lack of common sense, it will be YOUR sorry ass that got them laid off, not Obama.
Applebees

Don't be expecting that Applebees to be coming to your neighborhood. The company CEO is blaming Obamacare for why his company won't expand. Don't buy their stock, boycott the restauraunt, and tell your friends to go somewhere else.

The 47% quote from Mitt Romney
Sep. 17, 2012: A surreptitiously recorded video
of Romney – from a fundraiser in May –
shows Romney telling wealthy donors
that “47%” of the country that doesn’t pay
income taxes, that is dependent on
government and that believes “they are
victims” will vote for Obama no matter
what.” He adds in the video, "My job is not
to worry about those people. I'll never
convince them they should take personal
responsibility and care for their lives.”
Romney later holds a press conference,
where he said his comments were “not
elegantly stated” but also stood behind
his remarks. He later calls his remarks
“completely wrong

The Constitution begins with WE not ME
I am an independent voter in Virginia, where, besides Ohio, the candidates seem to think that the Old Dominion is the place where this election may be decided. It went for Obama 4 years ago and right now is leaning a bit Romney. I'd like to give you the perspective of an independent voter in Virginia.
The first thing to tell you is that I am voting for Obama. But, I can't tell anyone here. I am 49 years old, living in a rural western county that will likely go about 70% Romney. The people here are simply not reasonable when it comes to Obama. Most people here ...VOCAL people ...HATE the president so much that if Obama said he's for puppies, kittens, cute babies, and S'Mores, those things would quickly ...at least until November 6th, fall out of favor here. I mean the hate for him is deep and strong and is devoid of any fact other than ...well...he's OBAMA (said with a thick and gruff country accent)
I understand that Northern Virginia and Hurricane Superstorm Sandy devastated Eastern Virginia are big for Obama. He'll need it. In my opinion, the future of our country needs it.
And Obama and his policies need my vote as well. Florida between Gore and Bush came down to 500 somewhat disputed votes. If Virginia comes down to one, here is why Obama gets mine.
Those die hard I hate Obama worse than anything ever and the country will be ruined if he gets four more years Republicans ignore simple fact. He inherited an economy in ruins. He turned around the shrinking GDP which was spiraling at the rate of nearly 9% . Unemployment continues to fall steadily and 4.5 million jobs have been created, as the often used in Obama advertising bar graphs clearly show. Bush economics and big bank greed crashed the stock market ..it hit bottom and has since recovered and even doubled thanks to Obama. The housing market has stablized, and as Time magazine said,
"Mitt Romney can promise 12 million more jobs in the coming four years because Obama’s policies have already put us on track to produce them, courtesy of a revival of manufacturing, a rise in exports and a new wave of research and innovation"
The audacity of Romney campaigning sometimes standing in front of the economic successes of the Obama administration while blasting the stimulus plan that we all should hope any president, regardless of party, would have followed through with. (It's roots were in the end of the Bush years) And lets not ignore the unmitigated gall of Paul Ryan and his criticism of the stimulus while seeking funds from it for his own district.
So, a little momentum from the first debate charisma of the "salesman" Romney has blinded many from looking at the facts. The facts, if they were being considered by reasonable human beings, would point to the re-election of the man who stands a great chance of the hope and promise fulfilled.
The only reasonable arguments against him would be
1-"I'm in the one percent and I too don't care about 47% of the population because all I care about is ME and MY MONEY and I GET A TAX DEDUCTION FROM MY MILLIONS (plus some great tips on how to harbor your haul in the Caymans from the would be President himself),"
or, what I fear is most common in rural Virginia which is going to go HUGE for Romney on Tuesday,
2-"I just hate Obama."
Trust me ...on election night ..after all the GOOD he has done, and considering the conservatives all out opposition to his every breath in the past 4 years, and especially considering the absolute tool the Republican party nominated (not even the GOP wanted him and tried numerous alternative before settling for Romney), Barack Hussein Obama, if he loses, must look in the mirror and say "Golly...they really hated me."
Because those are the only explanations in the face of fact.
Said Time : "The new right has broken with conservatism’s past—and our country’s most constructive traditions—by adopting a new and radical individualism that largely ignores our country’s gift for community.
Gone in a Romney administration would be the push for women's equality, gay equality, and simple respect for the middle class of our country being treated as constitutional equals to the rich who get richer in every Republican administration and will do so doubly under Romney.
While those things will be gone, one thing will become restored. The right of the insurance companies in all their greed to deny those with pre-existing conditions the insurance they need to avoid catastrophic financial ruin because of being denied coverage. Romney will champion those insurance companies inhumane greed. On "day 1" he has vowed.
I should tell you at this point that 100% of my family have pre-existing conditions. And if there is anyone who themselves or who have a family member surviving breast cancer or a heart condition or injuries from an automobile accident as in my family, or perhaps suffer from diabetes, depression, or a chronic pain problem....if you even KNOW anyone with any of these pre-existing conditions, you are blatantly slapping yourself that afflicted person in the face with total disrespect if you vote for Romney, because you are voting for the man who vows to give insurance companies the right to disallow basic insurance to those individuals on his first day in office.
Slapping them in the face !
Slapping ME and my family in our faces !
Damn right this is a big choice.
As Time stated: "Obama is battling to defend the long consensus that has guided American government successfully since the Progressive Era. It is based on the view that ours is a country whose Constitution begins with the word we, not me, and that the private success we honor depends on a government that serves a common good and remembers the most vulnerable among us. The task of our moment is to revive that long consensus and renew it. Of the two major candidates, only Barack Obama accepts this mission as his own."
And so, while disgusted with the lack of progress in election reform and the pure nastiness of this election on both sides, this independent voter can only see one clear path for our next 4 years to set the table for generations to come. It's a single vote in the critical swing state of Virginia ...for four more years of Hope for President Obama.

Seriously Mitt?
You are just dead wrong.
There are independents out there who could easily be persuaded to vote Republican instead of Democrat where most of them landed as Obama voters 4 years ago. There was a chance.
But 47% aren't in your wheelhouse. You hate welfare so much ..and forget to tell your living room coffee club that you are caught by IPhone soliciting from ...forgot to tell them that 2/3 of those people gladly pay Soc Security and Medicare Tax. And of those who are left, we have people making 20K or less a year, the military, and the elderly. But you snub them ? Are you THAT out of touch with your half truth informed hatred of entitlements ? Did you forget that your DAD took welfare ?
I said this once about the Dems ...that they could have beaten Bush but they ran a tool in John Kerry, and lost the chance. The Republicans would have much to stand on ...Obama, the argument could be made, did not really earn a 2nd term, but Romney is a tool ..plain and simple. Out of touch, out of synch, under pressure from the far right. Romney is a unbelievable gaff machine and a study of irony. Criticizing the 16 trillion US debt and attributing it all to Obama while ignoring the fact that Republican Presidents have run up half of that debt. Pledging that the solution to that big ol hairy debt is to ADD to it at first ....with trillions going mostly so we can trickle it down from the rich,
Seriously Romney ? Seriously ?

Paul Ryan Satanic Music Playlist
Paul Ryan at the Republican convention saying his playlist "starts at AC DC and ends in Led Zepplin." Those are the two most satanic rock groups I can think of ...Zep dedicating Stairway to heaven to "sweet satan," and ACDC who love to get the "back street rhythm," "shoot to thrill," or sing the praises of "Hells Bells."
Something does not add up.

Obama Did NOT say "You didn't build that"
Sick of the distortions and pants on fire half truths ? Obama just did NOT say what the republicans in Tampa are saying he said.
Here is the full context, from Obama's speech in Roanoke, Va.:
"There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me -- because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t -- look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something -- there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there.
"If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business -- you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.
"The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don’t do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires.
"So we say to ourselves, ever since the founding of this country, you know what, there are some things we do better together. That’s how we funded the G.I. Bill. That’s how we created the middle class. That’s how we built the Golden Gate Bridge or the Hoover Dam. That’s how we invented the Internet. That’s how we sent a man to the moon. We rise or fall together as one nation and as one people, and that’s the reason I’m running for President -- because I still believe in that idea. You’re not on your own, we’re in this together.

FACTCHECK.COM SAYS ROMNEY CANNOT DO IT
The non partisan site Factcheck says today that the tax objectives that SOUND wonderful if they were only possible ..in fact are not.
Said the website:
Tax experts — including one who supports Romney’s plan — say the Republican presidential candidate’s promise to cut individual income tax rates without either favoring the wealthy or losing revenue isn’t mathematically possible.
That’s the conclusion of the Tax Policy Center in a report the Romney campaign attacked as “biased” (although the campaign previously praised the TPC as “objective,” when it issued a report critical of a rival’s tax plan).
And it’s also the conclusion of an expert from the pro-business Tax Foundation, who states that the Tax Policy Center analysis “correctly identified the Romney plan as a tax cut, at least in static terms, that accrues mainly to high-income earners.”
Don't believe everything you hear folks...unless it comes from factcheck.com

Paul Ryan calls Obama a Divider not a Uniter
Wasn't that left over from the Bush administration ? Having said that, Ryan and his fellow republicans on the hill got together in a room 3 1/2 years ago and decided they would support NOTHING Obama was for. If Obama was for the word Monday to start with the letter M they would still oppose it, no matter what. That was the blood pact. Then, can you imagine them saying "just wait til we tell everyone that it's all HIS fault the country is divided."
While on the subject of Ryan, the Daily Show pointed out that while Ryan is known for being the one who hates the deficit more than anyone, it is worth mentioning that things like Bush Tax cuts, other tax cuts, two wars, TARP, and other things that ran up the debt were ALL THINGS PAUL RYAN VOTED FOR !!!!

Is an entitlement always socialism
The most conservative of Americans talk
about government handouts, entitlements, if you will, and call these things "socialism," yet few
conservatives ever lump in things like the "untouchable" subsidies to
big business. Subsidies that supposedly aren't "socialism" yet are
government handouts.

10 Political & Economic Imponderables
What a friend of mine on the far right (and truly, NOT a common sense guy) posted on his facebook. He hates Obama. Some points are valid ...perhaps number 2 is a tad bit racist ...but even though I think there are arguments to be made against each of these statements, I will give him his due on them on face value. This blog is, after all, about common sense.
10 Political and Economic Imponderables that should Drive Every American Crazy
1. Only in America could politicians talk about the greed of the rich, at a $40,000-a-plate campaign fund raising event.
2. Only in America could people claim that the government still
discriminates against black Americans when we have a black President, a
black Attorney General and a federal workforce that is roughly 18% black
when entire the black population is only 12%.
3. Only in America could we have had the two people most responsible
for our tax code — Timothy Geithner, the head of the Treasury Department
and Charles Rangel who once ran the Ways and Means Committee — turn out
to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.
4. Only in America can we have terrorists kill people in the name
of Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims
might be upset by the backlash.
5. Only in
America would we make people who, want to legally become American
citizens, wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of
thousands of dollars for the privilege, while we discuss letting anyone
who sneaks into the country illegally just become American citizens.
6. Only in America could the people who believe in balancing the
budget and sticking by the country’s Constitution be thought of as
“extremists.”
7. Only in America could you need to present a driver’s license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.
8. Only in America could people demand the government investigate
whether oil companies are gouging the public - because the price of gas
went up - when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. oil company
(Marathon Oil) is less than half of what a company that manufactures
sports shoes and apparel overseas (Nike) makes.
9. Only in America could the government collect more tax dollars
from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a
trillion dollars more than it has per year for total spending ($7
million PER MINUTE), and complain that it doesn’t have nearly enough
money.
10. Only in America could the rich
people - who pay 86% of all income taxes - be accused of not paying
their “fair share” by people who don’t pay any income taxes at all.
1. Only in America could politicians talk about the greed of the rich, at a $40,000-a-plate campaign fund raising event.

7. Only in America could you need to present a driver’s license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.
8. Only in America could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public - because the price of gas went up - when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. oil company (Marathon Oil) is less than half of what a company that manufactures sports shoes and apparel overseas (Nike) makes.
9. Only in America could the government collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a trillion dollars more than it has per year for total spending ($7 million PER MINUTE), and complain that it doesn’t have nearly enough money.
10. Only in America could the rich people - who pay 86% of all income taxes - be accused of not paying their “fair share” by people who don’t pay any income taxes at all.

Gotye Parody Obama I Used To Know
Whatever side of the aisle you are on, OBAMA that I USED TO KNOW is one of the best done and most creative youtube vids I have ever seen. Stay with it to the end for the real message.
"You can get addicted to a certain kind of message -- like this is change we can believe in, yes we can. "But college ended had to pay my rent. At least you're the first gay president. But the change I got is that I moved in with my mother." And the chorus: "Because you won and then you cut me off. Now your speeches never soar as high as unemployment. You took ObamaCare so far, but you left me like a dog strapped on Romney's car."

Obama Should be lauded as a Conservative Legend ..but there is just NO common sense in politics.
IMAGINE if a Republican President
- pulled us out of the worst recession since the great depression, and possibly saved us from a modern depression.
- Produced 2 straight years of private sector growth
- created over 4 million jobs
- saved the American auto industry
- killed Osama Bin Laden
- aided in killing Ghadafi without an American Casualty
- Finally ended the War In Iraq (Mission Accomplished ?)
- Championed the lowest taxes in decades
These politics of misinformation and half truths must stop. The Common Sense Party !
Trailer Trash Red State Moment
Hot girls from a distance ? Giving trailer Trash a new meaning ...just wondering how many teeth between the two of them ? A dozen maybe ?
Now in case you didn't realize it ...these girls ..and the creator of the sign they stand in front of ...VOTE. Shouldn't you ?

Political Cartoon of the Day - whose entitlements ?
Here we have the duhhhhh Redneck Tea Party believer in all he believes having a little truth with his morning cup of coffee. When lower my taxes and cut entitlements becomes ...oh no not those entitlements.
Two Lies of Culture
"Our culture has accepted two huge lies: The first is that if you disagree with someone's lifestyle, you must fear them or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don't have to compromise convictions to be compassionate." - Rick Warren
Republican Conservatives Not What It Used To Be
On NPR Weekend Edition Sunday we heard from a man who was a lifelong conservative, who is disgusted with the way the ideals of Reagan are being put forth. He says his party and beliefs have become very different than before. Not FOR anything but only against things. Too much hate. The base of his GOP in Kansas is simply exiling moderates. "I think the lines have been drawn in the sand. Bridges have been
burned. Everybody is all-in this election," says Jim Denning, one of the
conservative candidates for the state's senate. Tim Owens is Dennings political opponent and has been fending off Koch Brothers funded attacks saying he stands with Obama.
"The conservative element today is a far cry from what the conservative was when I was growing up," he says. "It's angry. It's hateful.""Being a conservative Republican, I'm not crazy, I'm not vicious," he says. "I'm a very reasonable human being."
This culture of hatred has got to stop.

Monologue from The Newsroom on HBO
The character of Will McAvoy is played by Jeff Daniels ...who plays a SUPER smart and devoted to justice news anchor on cable. Think a better Keith Olberman. (Is he KO?) I knew that Aaron Sorkin is a genuis from The West Wing and The American President. This is still the amazing writing of Sorkin but with good acting and drama around it. A great cast including Olivia Munn. Here is the monologue that sold me and should sell everyone who votes
on any awards show. In the opening scene of the entire series,
McAvoy is in a roundtable and is WHY is America The greatest country in the world...and he
replies ....
Will McAvoy:
It's not the greatest country in the world, professor, that's my answer.
Moderator: You're saying...
Will McAvoy: Yes.
Moderator: Let's talk about...
Will McAvoy: Fine. Sharon, the NEA is a loser. Yeah, it accounts for a penny out of our paychecks, but he gets to hit you with it anytime he wants. It doesn't cost money, it costs votes. It costs airtime and column inches. You know why people don't like liberals? Because they lose. If liberals are so fuckin' smart, how come they lose so GODDAM ALWAYS! And with a straight face, you're going to tell students that America's so starspangled awesome that we're the only ones in the world who have freedom? Canada has freedom, Japan has freedom, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Australia, Belgium has freedom. Two hundred seven sovereign states in the world, like 180 of them have freedom. And you... sorority girl. Yeah, just in case you accidentally wander into a voting booth one day, there are some things you should know, and one of them is that there is absolutely no evidence to support the statement that we're the greatest country in the world. We're seventh in literacy, twenty-seventh in math, twenty-second in science, forty-ninth in life expectancy, 178th in infant mortality, third in median household income, number four in labor force, and number four in exports. We lead the world in only three categories: number of incarcerated citizens per capita, number of adults who believe angels are real, and defense spending, where we spend more than the next twenty-six countries combined, twenty-five of whom are allies. None of this is the fault of a 20-year-old college student, but you, nonetheless, are without a doubt, a member of the WORST-period-GENERATION-period-EVER-period, so when you ask what makes us the greatest country in the world, I don't know what the fuck you're talking about? Yosemite? We sure used to be. We stood up for what was right! We fought for moral reasons, we passed and struck down laws for moral reasons. We waged wars on poverty, not poor people. We sacrificed, we cared about our neighbors, we put our money where our mouths were, and we never beat our chest. We built great big things, made ungodly technological advances, explored the universe, cured diseases, and cultivated the world's greatest artists and the world's greatest economy. We reached for the stars, and we acted like men. We aspired to intelligence; we didn't belittle it; it didn't make us feel inferior. We didn't identify ourselves by who we voted for in the last election, and we didn't scare so easy. And we were able to be all these things and do all these things because we were informed. By great men, men who were revered. The first step in solving any problem is recognizing there is one-America is not the greatest country in the world anymore.

Romney and the Republican Hypocrisy
Mitt Romney and other Republicans are showing a level of hypocrisy that is unreal and counter productive. Republican leaders have emphasized that they would rather see the economy fail than Obama win.
Romney laments the toll outsourcing has taken on our economy, got rich
investing in companies that did that.
Romney urged Fla Gov Rick Scott to downplay good economic news in the
state (Bloomberg)
Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell says unemployment in this state is at its
lowest unemployment in 3 years ...admitting that its been falling
since Obama has been in office.Yet he is one of Obama's biggest critics and is on the list to be Romney's VP candidate.
Ohio unemployment fell three percent, mostly due to the auto industry
rescue ..yet the Republican governor there, John Kasich downplays it.
Republican Senate Leader Mitch McConnell has said his party's top
priority is to defeat Obama. Not to create jobs. Not to get our
economy going again. But to win an election.
Bipartisan ideas that would create as many as 1 million new jobs for
our teachers, police officers, firefighters and construction
workers.have been thwarted.
Because things are the way they are, things will not stay the way they
are." --Bertolt Brecht

Mitt Romney Vice President Choice -No Girls Allowed
So Mitt Romney has all but wrapped up the Republican nomination, and
its time to think about who will be his running mate. Likely, he will
pick someone more conservative than he is perceived to be to bolster
the support of the Tea Party faction of the GOP, and maybe someone who
can help him in one of the states where the race is expected to be
razor thin between him and O'Bama. While the independents went for
Obama last time, its expected that Romney will get his fair share of
those with his moderate policies. Where he needs help is getting the
very conservative voters to get behind him with both their votes, and
their dollars.
This website believes that the ultea conservatives will come out in
droves on Election Day, not because of their love for Romney, but
more because they think less of the sitting president than even Mitt.
Will Paul Rubio be the choice ? Rubio actually thinks Jeb Bush would
be the ideal choice. Chris Christie didn't want to run for prez but
he sure doesn't mind being thought of as a VP possibiltiy. Dare
Romney go so far right as Paul Ryan of Wisconsin ? Indiana Gov Mitch
Daniels and Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell are in the discussion.
This website wishes a common sense moderate like Mike Huckabee were
being considered, but common sense seems too much to ask.
Where are the women in the discussion?Sen. Kelly Ayotte of NH and Gov
Mary Fallin of Oklahoma ? Not likely, and don't even think about
Sarah Palin.

Bruce Springsteen For President
Here is the stump speech for Bruce Springsteen, presidential candidate, composed using only lyrics and themes from Wrecking Ball. From Chris Richards, writing in the Washington Post.
My fellow Americans,
We’ve been traveling over rocky ground. Trudging through the dark in a world gone wrong. Forty days and nights of rain have washed this land.
No rifles cut us down, no bombs fell from the sky — but just as sure as the hand of god, all them fat cats, vultures, and robber barons brought death to our home.
They destroyed our families’ factories, and they took our homes. Their crimes have gone unpunished; they walk the street as free men now. Up on Banker’s Hill, the party’s still going strong. If I had a gun, I’d find the bastards and shoot ’em on sight.
Whoah-oh.
What is this land, America? The banker man grows fat, the working man grows thin. The gambling man rolls the dice, the working man pays the bill. The road of good intentions has gone dry as a bone.
What is this land, America? Where’s the eyes with the will to see? Where’s the promise, from sea to shining sea? We take care of our own? There ain’t no help.
Where you once had faith, now there’s only doubt.
Whoah-oh-whoah.
We will be alright. We made the steel that built the cities with the sweat of our two hands. Hammer the nails, harvest your crops. Pull that engine apart until she’s running right. Freedom is a dirty shirt — the sun on your face and your shovel in the dirt. These hands built the country. The McNichols, the Polaskis, the Smiths, Zerellis too — the blacks, the Irish, the Italians, the Germans and the Jews.
They died in the fields and factories. They died in Maryland in 1877, when the railroad workers made their stand. They were killed in 1963, one Sunday morning in Birmingham. They died last year, crossing the southern desert, children left behind in San Pablo. But their spirits rise to carry the fire.
We stood the job, now we’ll stand the flood.
We’ll start caring for one another. We take care of our own.
I will provide for you, and I’ll stand by your side. Dreams will not be thwarted. Faith will be rewarded. A new day is rising.
Raise your children, teach them to walk straight and true. Pick up the rock, son, and carry it on.
Grab your ticket and your suitcase. Meet me in a land of hope and dreams.
Whoah-oh-whoah.
I want everybody to stand up and be counted tonight. Hold tight to your anger, don’t fall to your fears.
There’s a new world coming. I can see the light.
Good night, and God bless America.

Obamacare death will be due to partisanship, NOT common sense
There was a SNL skit during the healthcare debate before congress where the players imitating the Republican members indicated that they could indeed support Obama if only he would change HIS position. It was comical...but it was true....as their is often truth in the best comedy.
Does anyone see the point ? Who on earth could be for giving the insurance companies even MORE dominance over our lives. Letting them continue to deny people who have indeed paid premiums all their lives to enrichen the insurance companies...DENY them life saving coverage when they may need it most because of pre-existing conditions. Republicans can do that ..checking their moral character in the mirror on the way out the door, somehow telling themselves they saved the country from the socialism they so preach about. I will consider the irony of the fact that I am now not required to buy medical insurance the next time I am at the DMV where the State of Virginia requires me to buy auto insurance, but somehow THIS doesn't threaten a cloud of socialism to anyone who has gone along with that program all along. Republicans have been claiming they will defeat Obamacare at the ballot box. Now with a partisan group of the 9 most powerful men and women in the world, MORE powerful easily than the congress, senate, or president (just ask Al Gore), about to drive the dagger into the most incredibly needed piece of legislation that has been passed in my lifetime.
I am sad that partisan politics has come this far. Ruining a good idea for the sake of that it wasn't their idea.
President Barack Obama: Sen. McConnell, as the Senate Minority Leader, I want you
to have a voice too. Now, uh, what can I do to bring the rest of the
Republican Party into the conversation.
Mitch McConnell : Well, uh, Mr. President, maybe I can explain the Republican position -- it's not that we don't want health care to fail. We don't! We just want you to fail. And defeating health care reform is the best way to do that.
[ President Obama clenches his jaw. ]
Mitch McConnell : Because if you fix health care, that would be a big victory for you and that's bad for us.
[ The President rubs his neck over and over. ]
Mitch McConnell : With that said, I could see us supporting health care but only if you switch your position to AGAINST it.

Limbaugh Lies and Offends EVERY Woman
Recently, Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) angrily walked out of a congressional hearing on the contraception coverage rule last month because the one female witness the Democrats brought, was not allowed to speak because a republican deemed her "unqualified" to contribute to the issue at hand. She was to add the young woman's perspective, as a college student at Georgetown. Basically, she could relate to a fellow student who lost an ovary because the birth control she needed for a medical condition was not affordable. Sounds like many would say she DID have something to say.
But Rush Limbaugh says she is a "slut" and a "prostitute." Her name is Sandra Fluke. She is a law student. She is most certainly not a prostitute, and no woman deserves to be called the other name Limbaugh called her. He also insulted young women by saying he would by aspirin for Georgetown girls to put between their legs.
My problem is not a First Amendment problem...Mr. Limbaugh has the right to say whatever he feels and believes. But what this blog is becoming about, this discourse that it acceptable to some, is just poison. Because Limbaugh will certainly continue to be hated by his haters, but, a great many people will tune right in again to him, unoffended by this. I think, personally, that broadcasters have been fired for less. I'd like to see him pay with his job. But, that won't happen, because he is basically self employed. The only way to get rid of him is to complain to the station that broadcasts him and demand his removal ..but it will never happen. What bothers me is that nobody walked out of the room Limbaugh was speaking to.
Some of the poisonous diatribe in politics today is muddy half truths. But, all too often, and dare I say all too often from the right, its just lies ..and in this case, a young and bright woman, a future lawyer, being the brunt of very hurtful lies, as Limbaugh said on his show about her, "What does it say about the college co-ed Susan Fluke [sic] who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex -- what does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex."
Mr Limbaugh ..and Mr Limbaugh's listeners and supporters, that is just undefendable BS.
As I always say on this blog ..go ahead and disagree and use whatever the facts are to back up your positions, and you probably can get accomplished whatever your agenda is. But, folks, we with common sense, MUST begin to stand up against dialogue like this ....the half truths and the lies must exit from the conversation, or we are sunk as a society, because it makes the great idea of democracy, to ugly to stomach in it's current form.

Gas Prices Media Coverup ? Some say yes ..not me
I just checked my Facebook and a person whom I like very much says that he thinks the media are purposely not reporting gas prices going up. ..And that the reason for this blatant ignorance of the gas price rise story is that the media is hiding the rising gas prices to help Obama. And he punctuates his belief that he hasn't heard anything by saying the media is just trying to blame George W. Now here is the thing...as absolutely preposterous as I believe his Facebook status statement to be, and furthermore indicative of how furious so many Virginians and Americans are with the job the president has done (or not done), I am amazed that as of this moment 8 people "like" his statement.
So, I for one have heard LOTS of media coverage about the gas prices, and while the media didn't go out of their way to praise Obama when prices were 3.00, they also haven't ignored the story as the Facebook friend claims. Nor did they laugh hysterically when a candidate claimed if he were elected gas would be 2.00 a gallon. This is just another example of how civility has left the great pastime of political discussion and disagreement. I am amazed at how the audacity of some to make unsubstantiated statements is unchecked by certain some of us who see things with a bit more intellect and with less haze.
I watch NBC news as well as the local ABC affiliate and Washington DC stations, WUSA 9, NBC 4, plus web news from cnn.com. foxnews.com, the very liberal Huffington Post, Time Magazine online to name a few. I feel the media is bombarding us with news on gas prices. And having worked in media for awhile, I think these entities talk about gas prices so much because media endeavors to talk about what everyone is talking about ..and EVERYONE is talking about gas prices.

Even Jeb Bush wants COMMON SENSE in politics
Jeb Bush as quoted on the Time Magazine web site.
Sounds like he could come write for this website if he wanted.
“I used to be a conservative, and I watch these debates and I’m
wondering, I don’t think I’ve changed, but it’s a little troubling
sometimes when people are appealing to people’s fears and emotion
rather than trying to get them to look over the horizon for a broader
perspective, and that’s kind of where we are.”

Republicans - Your Rhetoric & Hype is dishonest & embarrassing
Jon Stuart playing a clip of Republican Trent Franks of Arizona saying in 2008 that if Obama were elected, no doubt we'd have a socialist economy and that it would be impossible to stop this. Stuart commented that the only thing Obama did that was kind of socialist was to redistribute wealth in the form of tax payer dollars going to the banks...a kind of dyslexic socialism. We were warned! Then a clip of Rep. Steve King of Iowa, who warned in 2008 that if radical islamists would be "dancing in the streets." Stuart commented that the only dancing was dancing to get out of the way of drone attack hellfire missiles. Then for the trifecta, in 2008 we were warned that if Obama were elected, nothing you could do to defend yourself because the "dictator," Obama, would have thought out a plan, as John McCain's clip pointed out as he spoke to the NRA, that the rights of law abiding gun owners would be at risk. Turns out the only legislation dealing with 2nd amendment rights Obama has signed actually permitted gun owners more freedom to carry concealed weapons into national parks and Amtrack trains. Newt Gingrich in 2008 said an Obama presidency would "eliminate freedom of speech for Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity."
We are hearing the same rhetoric. He's been in office for four years and we are not socialist, we have not had gun rights taken away, and the terrorists have not been embolden by anything more than the war in Iraq, which he got us out of. And last I saw, Limbaugh still had a chance to run his half truths and out and out lies to his zombie followers without impedance.
Here is some of the blatantly ridiculous rhetoric spewed as of late.
Newt Gingrich -Feb 12th..."The morning after he is reelected, he will wage war on the Catholic church."
Dec 22 2011 Mitt says if Obama is elected "you will not be able to get a job."
Dec 28th 2011 Trent Franks "We will step into this night of European Socialism."
Feb 6th Rich Santorum -"America will not be the land that believes in free people and free enterprise."
Nov 12 Mitt Romney -"If we re-elect Barack Obama Iran will have a nuclear weapon."
Michelle Bachman -"There is no future, there is no hope"
You've lost your damn mind.
The President of the NRA , Wayne Lapierre told his followers that the Obama strategy, a" massive Obama conspiracy" as he said, his 2nd term strategy which was "crystal clear, to deceive voters and hide his true intentions to destroy the second amendment," which as Stuart says was preposterous as if the whole first term was just to "set the trap."
It's too much and this rhetoric machine needs to be laughed at. Without serious, factual, intellectual debate, we can't solve our problems. Even with those things I guess we aren't sure it's possible, but lets be honest, if these wild accusations and falsehoods were bandied about in an elementary school atmosphere instead of the national media, the Republicans parents would be called after a long sit down in the Vice Principals office. It's just crazy talk, and though the dems have their faults, does anyone see quite the same disconnect from reality from them ?
Demand more! ..demand common sense from our politicians. Tell your friends ...even if you think that Obama has not been that effective of a President, even if you think his leadership has failed, that the way to show him the door should be more about merit or lack thereof, which can be documented with civility, and not THIS kind of egregious and delirious ..and if I were republican I would add embarrassing diatribe.
Please share this on FB, email, and twitter ..and the other ideals of common sense may someday prevail.

A Call for Common Sense in Presidential Race -A Rant
It's just the audacity of some... like Newt ...that's a good example ... who have the audacity to think that even though their skeletons are going to get exposed, they have enough narcissism to believe they should not only run for president, but dupe thousands upon thousands of contributors into giving up the money it takes in an act that I can only deem as fraudulent, and though not currently, should be prosecutable, and to also dupe hundreds of thousands of voters and volunteers into wasting their time and energy and votes on what should never have been considered for any reason whatsoever. Newt isn't the only one. It defies common sense, and the common sense middle of us demand more accountability from politicians and their actions. Not democrat or republican? The common sense middle will someday organize, and should rebuff attempts at either party to claim them (us). Jon Stuart missed a good chance to unite the middle, and we most hope that the disbelief we have in our system that comes across as apathy can be overcome and find a leader....one without the audacity to defraud believers. Obama wasn't afraid to acknowledge the outrageous self confidence it takes to step up ...let someone do it and soon ...this is important. It can be done with integrity and character and a sense of humor. Shine a light on what they audacious ones wish to hide in the shadows, and start a path (as George Carlin used to say ..."you have to hold down the grass at first") .
If you, who are reading this, are not the leader ...then here is what to do. Tell your friends that you are neither Republican nor Democrat. Tell them you are in the middle, and proudly independent, until another term for it becomes existent. Tell your friends to to join you to rebuff the prevailing Us vs, Them mentality that contradicts common sense and the human decency to find compromise for the greater good. The very first step is no longer remaining silent. It's time for a third party to rise in America ...lets call it the Common Sense Party.

Cain endorses fellow philanderer Newt
Just a thought ... Herman Cain has endorsed Newt Gingrich, in an amazing plot similarity to the George Clooney movie Ides Of March, Not surprised as the candidate that the alleged philanderer Cain would support is another philanderer in Newt. First thing to check when you decide to run for president is whether or not your marriages overlap.
Gingrich and the History Lesson from Brokaw and NBC
Let us speak of Gingrich, of hypocrisy, of the unmitigated gall of a man who thinks he should be president after his marriages overlap while prosecuting Clinton for infidelity, and who proclaims his integrity in the hope that, as this Tom Brokaw NBC News History Lesson from the Mitt Romney Campaign proves, he has little or none. We may still not know who exactly is the right man to lead the country as much as we are SURE it is not Newt Gingrich after his ethical violations when he was Speaker of The House.

Obama's common sense
Obama now says its time to realize that the divide in our country isn't Republican, Democrat, 1% nor 99%ers, its AMERICAN.
"This is a make-or-break moment for the middle class and all those who are fighting to get into the middle class," Obama said. "At stake is whether this will be a country where working people can earn enough to raise a family, build a modest savings, own a home and secure their retirement."
His speech at OSAWATOMIE, KANSAS of all places, where he paid homage to Teddy Roosevelt, in a small town gym, seemed ready to right the ship and point us in the right direction . . . and portray anyone who doesn't see it that way as clearly on the wrong side of history that could be made and needs to be made.
The republicans are missing a chance to compete...but that comes up in another post another time.

Taking Rick Perry TOO Seriously
There is no such thing as a lesbian, just women who have not met Rick Perry.
Fact: Rick Perry's tears cure cancer. Unfortunately, he's never cried.
Rick Perry's cereal never gets soggy. It sits there, staying crispy, just for him.
Rick Perry's organ donation card, also lists his hair.
4 out of 5 doctors recommend Rick Perry. Also, in totally unrelated news, 20% of doctors die unexplained, needlessly brutal deaths.
Instead of having a cigarette after sex, Rick Perry heads outside and brands his cattle.
Rick Perry has never lost a sock. Ever.
There is no "Control" button on Rick Perry's computer. Rick Perry is always in control.
When somebody yells "Last one in is a rotten egg," Rick Perry is never, ever the rotten egg.
Rick Perry came and he gave without taking. But you pushed him away. Oh, Mandy.
When Rick Perry was born, the only person who cried was the doctor. Lesson learned. Never slap Rick Perry.
Aliens DO exist. It's just that they know better than to visit a planet Rick Perry inhabits.
Rick Perry lives vicariously through himself.
Rick Perry once visited the Virgin Islands. They are now referred to simply as "the islands"
When Rick Perry opens a pack of Twix, there are three.

Rick Perry really likes the movie 101 Dalmatians. No one knows why.
Some kids urinate their names in the snow. Rick Perry can urinate his name into concrete. He just chooses not to.
Rick Perry does not "style" his hair. It lays perfectly in place out of sheer terror.
Rick Perry did all the make-up on the Planet of the Apes movies.
Rick Perry understands the ending of 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Rick Perry ghostwrites all the articles for Garden & Gun magazine
Rick Perry was born with the right to party. Unlike the rest of us who have to fight for it
Rick Perry impaled over 40 horses to make what he calls "an authentic" Merry-Go-Round.
Rick Perry's blood type is WD-40
Rick Perry can peel potatoes with his eyelids.

On his birthday, Rick Perry randomly selects one lucky child to be thrown into the sun.
Rick Perry just saved a kitten from a tree while Jon Huntsman was talking
Time slows down whenever Rick Perry speaks
AT&T does not drop Rick Perry's Cell Calls
Perry's car once ran out of gas. After pistol whipping it for 10 min it started back up. He's never had to fill it up since

Jon Huntsman won the 09-07-2011 Republican Debate
I watched the republican debate from the Reagan Library on September 7th, 2011 and I am a bit perplexed as to why Jon Huntsman hasn't gained traction in the presidential polls.
He is the embodiment of what this blog is about as the campaign heats up. COMMON SENSE. At this point I'd add, COME ON SENSE, meaning, Come On ...what are you not getting about Huntsman ?
I think the groundswell of Perry support will crumble in the face of his backwoods hick "don't tell me how to think or what to say" mentality. The firm beliefs of the Texas governor are admirable for being just that, but if it doesn't come back to bite him in the ass I will be very surprised and will begin to believe the GOP is hell bent on handing Obama the chance ice cubes chance in hell he so desperately needs.
If they would elect a common sense moderate, the republicans would get the votes of all the pissed off Dems and currently right swinging and fed up with Obama independents. The man the GOP needs seems to be John Huntsman in every way shape and form. Huntsman is correct that if the Tea Party gets so enamored with Perry or anyone else that embodies the current "anti-science" stance of some, they will appear uneducated and dogmatic, and become a laughing stock that loses in 2012, and can make history for missing a wide open slam dunk of an opportunity.
In my eyes, Huntsman may not have gotten the biggest applause, and perhaps isn't as charismatic as some, but was the clear winner for anyone who watched and scored on honesty, integrity, and appeal to a mainstream, common sense middle.

The President's Revenge on Donald Trump
Here are the words of Donald Trump after being skewered by Seth Myers and President Obama at the Correspondents Dinner Saturday night... "Well, I really understood what I was getting into, I didn't know that I'd be virtually the sole focus," he said. "But I was certainly in a certain way having a good time listening. I had no idea it would be to that extent, where you know, it was just joke after joke after joke," Trump said on Sunday morning. "It was almost like, is there anyone else they could talk about?"
Did ya think they'd let it go ? After the media blitz from the demands ?
Obama said Trump has made the tough decisions, for instance firing Gary Busey on "Celebrity Apprentice" instead of Meatloaf. "These are the types of decisions that would keep me up at night. Well handled, sir." Obama also showed a photoshop White House where Trump had turned the home into a casino.
Obama thinks now The Donald can focus on serious issues, like if the moon landings were faked or "where are Biggie and Tupac?"
Said Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Anchor Seth Myers about Trump, "Donald Trump often talks about running as a Republican, which is surprising, I just assumed he was running as a joke."
So Trump walked into the Lions Den and was dispatched easily. After drinking in two weeks of publicity in demanding the President's Birth Certificate, he had to wonder at some point what would happen should Obama actually produce the document ...how would he be mocked ? Now, he knows, up close and personal, and how gratifying for him to be brought to within a few feet of Obama himself to do the skewering.

Who was in bed with Haley Barbour when he was a lobbyist ?
Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour is a former Washington's lobbyist. And you might think this is a joke, but it's not ..he believes that is an ASSET as a presidential candidate. SERIOUSLY. Just who is advising the former RNC chair ?
The issues he was lobbying for include some that might not sit well with the GOP base.In any republican debates it will be brought up that Barbour Griffith & Rogers Inc., according to Huffington Post "represented foreign governments on trade and immigration issues, advocated for a fuel additives association that was working in opposition to the ethanol industry dear to Iowa voters, and helped a number of universities get federal funding through a tactic that is anathema to cut-spending conservatives." He built a Wall Street who's who of influential clients including Bristol-Myers Squibb, CBS, Comcast, Delta Air Lines, Lockheed Martin, Microsoft and Qwest Communications.
He says that the job of President is very similar to lobbyist. Anyone want to beg to differ ? Especially republican faithful and even more especially, the anti tax and spend Tea Party. This may be the swan song for the would be candidate.

Obama Relection Ramps Up
President Barack Obama is poised to make it official and tell the world he will run for re-election. Papers will be filed as soon as this week with the REC, and he will announce his intention with email to supporters and texts as well. Its just the formality for what everyone already knew...and the fundraising is already underway, as Obama raked in a million and a half at a NY fundraiser this past week. Already on his schedule is Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
It doesn't look like any Dems plan to challenge the incumbent. Keep in mind that republicans with the power to do so on Capitol Hill may exploit the best weapon they have against Obama...and that is keeping the economy from rebounding, which would strenghten the Presidents case for re-election. THAT my friends, is NOT common sense, and in fact, hindering recovery, should in my opinion, be viewed as treasonous.
Which Republican hopefuls will get up to speed quickly ? The race for 2012 is underway and common sense must prevail !

Pendulum Swinging Back on Tea Party
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/03/30/cnn-poll-unfavorable-view-of-tea-party-on-the-rise/
Not quite the end of the Tea Party but the news from CNN says that more people think that the Tea Party, while most can agree that SOMETHING must be done about taxes, took the wrong tac blaming our country's financial woes on Obama ...and by blaming him, I mean painting Hitler mustaches on his likeness. So, yes, get worked up about something you believe in, but no, don't take anything to that extreme, especially when the country hadn't had time yet to forget the driving the US financial bus into the ditch was done by Bush.
Tea Party now carries a 47 point unfavorable rating according to CNN. Always amused me that the party was founded on hatred of TARP, started by Bush, and evolved into Obama haters. Silly Tea Party, facts are for serious people.

Pawlenty on Laura Ingraham - Let the Flip Flops begin
Republican hopeful from the great state of Al Franken and Jesse Ventura, Tim Pawlenty, went on Laura Ingraham to say he is sorry for his past support for cap-and-trade legislation on the "Laura Ingraham Show."
"I've said, 'Look, I've made a mistake,'" explained Pawlenty of his position shift, according to Politico. "I think cap-and-trade would be a ham-fisted, unhelpful, damaging thing to the economy. ... It's misguided. I made the mistake. I admit it. I'm not trying to be cute about it. I just come out and tell you it was a mistake."
Pawlenty is changing his tune on that issue, but says he won't be the only Republican flip flopper. In fact, don't be surprised if it isnt the only issue he and others flip flop on, or even flip, flop, flip.
"Everybody in the race, at least the big names in the race, embraced climate change or cap-and-trade at one point or another," he said.
According to TIME, a few other potential presidential contenders will play it safe during the campaign on the issue climate change .
